Well we finally found out the winner of the SAMMY award and while it was great to be nominated, seeing the winner kinda pisses me off. I’m not exactly sure how voting goes, but it is clear that the winner knew how to get votes. The winner of the Sammy was the company that I thought for sure would NOT win… Safety Care. If there was a possible better site then the one I designed I would have given it to Allied Fire & Security. Overall I’m upset that Safety Care won. It’s an incredibly basic site which isn’t bad, but when compared to the competition, honestly, it doesn’t stand up. It’s also nowhere near optimized for search, at least from what I can tell. This tells me that the folks at the SAMMYs (or at least those who vote) don’t know good design and certainly don’t know internet marketing. Both my site and the Allied site are well designed and optimized for search… so how the hell did Safety Care win? Okay, maybe I’m a little more than upset!

Today at 4:30 PM, somewhere in Vegas, the website I designed for my former employer Select Security is up for the “Best Website Design”. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the judges thought of my work. After looking at the competition I can imagine the judging going either way between my site and one of the other sites. It all depends on what the judges see as a more effective homepage. I would hope that they look at the full site and see some of the nice work I did on the interior pages too. Of course I have to wait till this evening, but how great would that be to win!
