Coffee For Me, Coffee For You

I was never a big coffee drinker. I can remember back when I was a small child going over to my grandmother’s house for a family gathering or just the weekend visit while mom was doing her shopping and typically if there were people there, there was coffee brewing. My Great Uncle Dick drank a lot of coffee from what I remember and I think my mind was made up about coffee one day when the family was over for a poker game. The game had gotten pretty good and it was time to get in that coffee fix so the pot went on and the brewing began. I recall trying some of the beverage from either my Nan or my Great Uncle Dick… regardless, I didn’t like it… and I continued to dislike coffee until I was about 22 and started to work the night shift at a local magazine. It was there that I felt the might and magic of coffee!

keurigIm still not a huge coffee drinker, however it was become a pretty big staple in my typical day. So much so that for Christmas I purchased a Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System for Maria. We had seen one at a friend’s house and immediately fell in love with the idea of quick, personalized, single cups of coffee… “Awww man, we could use that!” From that point on, it was on the list and I knew that someday we would have one too!

I actually gave it to Maria for her birthday right before Christmas so that we could use it ON Christmas… and boy did we! I think we both had our fair share of coffees, teas and hot cocoa that day and the days afterwards. The Keurig B60 is just so simple to use. Simply fill the water reservoir and lock it into the unit. The B60 then initiates the initial testing the machine which requires putting water through the system without a K-cup. When the screen (Blue back lit… very nice) says “Ready to Brew” just pull up on the silver handle, place your K-cup in the holder, close the holder by pulling down on the sliver handle, pick your serving amount and in 30 seconds you have a steaming hot cup of coffee or tea.

The Keurig B60 Special Edition features:

• 1500-watt single-cup brewing system for gourmet coffee, tea, or cocoa
• Uses patented K-Cups; removable 48-ounce water reservoir; 3 brew sizes (cup, mug, travel)
• Programmable back lit LCD display with digital clock and on/off timer
• Temperature control; removable drip tray; 18 K-Cup variety pack included
• Measures 13-1/4 by 10 by 13 inches; 1-year limited warranty

I also purchased a few accessories for the coffee maker including the 27 K-cup spinning holder, a K-cup filter so you can use your own coffee and 2 boxes of multi-flavored coffees, teas and drinks. Oh but that’s not all. I wondered to myself, “Man, these K-cup things are neat, but I wonder how much it cost to but them regularly… and really, how many varieties can there be?” Well guess what… there are a ton of options in the K-cup world and they are not expensive at all. We recently found The Keurig K-Cup Shop where you can find a great variety of K-cup flavors for an average price of $13 per 25 K-cups… It may not be the best price when you think about the big can of Maxwell House you can get at the store, but then again, this ain’t grandma’s Maxwell House coffee… it certainly isn’t grandma’s coffee maker… Not yet at least!
